It was an excellent weekend for football at the SFL Convention in Cincinnati. On Saturday night (July 29th), the Lycans were barbeque chicken: Cooked! The Lycans (0-1) gave up 38-straight points to a fiery Las Vegas Fury team (1-0). "In all honesty, we were ill-prepared and outmatched that night," QB Sully Richardson explained. "They were the better team that night."
There was a glimmer of hope in the 1st Quarter as SS Ryan Yoseph intercepted a Fury 3rd & Goal pass in the endzone. The Lycans could not capitalize on their ensuing offensive possession. Both sides of the ball were gassed the entire game. "We understand it's a new era in the SFL," said newly-acquired LB Greg Ward. "It's disappointing but we won't let this loss define who we are."
Besides the lopsided score, LA was dealt a huge blow as their All-Star TE Jack Flash went down in the 2nd Quarter. The offense was only able to mustard up 203 Total Yards and 8 1st Downs. The Fury had 515 Total Yards with the majority of those being rushing yards from HB Hubba Kimbrel (50 Atts. 277 Yds 3 TDs). The Lycans got their lone 3-points from Kicker Sid O'Lindy in the 4th Quarter after a stalled drive.
Offensive Coordinator Ryan Yoseph was unbothered during the post-game press conference. "It's a brand-new start for every team in the Simulation Football League. It's one game and it's extremely too early to panic. We're 0-0 next week. That's the focus." The Lycans have licked their wounds and are refocused this week as they face the 1-0 Denver Nightwings for some SFL Sunday Night Football. Head Coach Rachelle Colston gave insight for their upcoming game. "We've been going back to the basics and are focusing on the barebones of football. No need to reinvent the wheel."
